WINDSOR, CT: Eljen Corporation, a veteran-founded wastewater and environmental products manufacturer based in Windsor, Connecticut, today announced that it received the HIRE Vets Platinum Medallion award from the U.S. Department of Labor for 2019.
The award was instituted by the 2017 HIRE Vets - Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans - Act. It is the only federal-level veterans' employment award that recognizes a company or organization's commitment to veteran hiring, retention, and professional development. Eljen is one of two Connecticut based companies to ever receive the small business Platinum Medallion award and both received the award this year.
Eljen President and retired Army Captain, Jim King, and Eljen Board President, Mark Bram, attended a ceremony in Washington, DC, on November 7 to accept the award.
"We are honored to receive this award," says Jim King. "Eljen has been committed to supporting, hiring, and training veterans since our veteran-founder Joseph Glasser started the business in 1970."
"The business has stayed true to the principles of our founder, continues King. "Serving as a navigator in World War II, Joseph Glasser lived the values of teamwork, helping others, and most importantly, to never leave a man behind. Instilling those values in Eljen has led to the business we have today. One that is strong, growing, and diverse."
Eljen Corporation actively recruits veterans reentering the workforce and is committed to several organizations that support veterans in need, such as Homes For Our Troops.
